  • Yeah, this duet simply sticks. And this Popp/von Stade rendition is divine.

  • I bought this recording when it first came out some decades ago. (It is still available on the Philips label.) When I came to this duet, I would often rewind the tape to hear it repeatedly. In the years since, I have heard other versions of this number, but none to equal this one. Most don't even come close. This is one for the ages--a major landmark in the history of recorded music.
