If all the elephants were at a sanctuary and not in the US then people wouldn't be as interested in saveing them and there are poachers in sanctuary. Illegal but it happens. Wouldn't it be cruel to take her away from her friends?

@elioke a lot do, but not all.

can't doctors fix that?

Pearl and Donna have not been on display . They are hidden -away from the other eles. Donna has TB. They are each other's best friend.
You are sadly mis- informed. and i wonder what owners BOTH PAWS and THE ELEPHANT SANCTUARY WOULD SAY ? I'M SURE THEY WOULD BE SHOCKED TO HEAR OF POACHING IN THEIR SANCTUARY. That is because it doesn't happen.

I live in Saint Louis, and I go to the Zoo often.
We're one of the most respected Zoos in the nation for a reason, and that reason is *not* because we abuse our animals. We have the finest vets working here, and if there was something that could be done for Pearl, it would be done.
And the elephants are not circus animals. They don't perform "tricks".

being on natural turf and in a natural enironment would certiainly i mprove her q uality of life.. The Zoo cannot provide this. Sanctuary can.

to my understanding there is nothing vets can do. surgery would most likely kill her.
Her uterus prolapsed when birthing Raja . She has lived this way for 16 years.
The best treatment would be to trasnfer her to a natural setting Sanctuary with soft ground for her feet and ponds to wash her legs off.
