Skills for Life

Skills for Life courses are offered in college, across the local community as well as in the workplace. Our well qualified, friendly and experienced staff team help learners to improve their English and maths by providing individually tailored programmes to meet a wide range of abilities. The staff team help learners to work towards accredited, nationally recognised qualifications.

The skills learnt will assist people in their everyday lives, from improved use of English and maths as needed on a daily basis to finding a job or being promoted at work. ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) courses are for people who wish to improve their language skills when English is not their first language and the College currently has students from over 50 different countries attending in sessions.


Foundation Studies

The College's Foundation Studies courses provide differentiated and tailored training to a wide range of Entry and Level 1 learners and the staff team has the skills and experiences to teach a wide range of abilities with many students having learning difficulties or disabilities. The courses improve learners' self-confidence, independence and vocational experience. The programmes are designed to improve job, life and work skills and will provide a structured pathway to progression.

There are opportunities for practical work experience which takes place in college or in community based work placements. Such experience helps learners to develop their communication skills and understanding of real work. Foundation Learners progress on to other college courses or into employment or supported employment.


The Foundation Learning School is designed to support people who have yet to achieve their full potential and will provide a stepping stone or pathway to further progression opportunities.
