I really don't understand why most covers of this song sing it SOOO slowly. It doesn't work, it's a song about a constant stream of thoughts in your mind that won't shut up, it's supposed to be manic, not relaxing. Listen to the original version.

In The Thomas Crown Affair (1968) it is, but ...

another interpretation of the song is a person's mental state after a romantic break-up, relating the way emotionally charged thoughts and memories can run in tortured circles. (wiki)

That's because Thomas Crown isn't the original version. The song is composed by Michel Legrand and is originaly called Les moulins de mon coeur. Sharleen's version is closer to the original, which is mellow, slow and easy in tone.
