  • This series was made in England-and this is the original song that went with the programme.

As somebody mentioned in another thread, for US audiences the song was changed because Rossini's William Tell Overture was being used for the Lone Ranger.

I personally think that it is right that the William Tell Overture is used for William Tell.

  • Yes, I'd love to hear the Detroit area version "Marching behind William Tell, we know well, that our cause it is just! Marching behind William Tell, ???, ??????! Freeee! We we've a right to be freeeee! We must fight to be freeeee! And united we cry, ??? ?!!!"

Somebody find that exciting theme song!!

  • @johnsher2 Thank you! Personal message with required info on the way. Looking forward to giving this song a listen - it's been nearly forty years (!!??!!) since I last heard it.

  • @sjplwc - Hey, someone here found a fuzzy version of that song, the one I also used to watch on CKLW! I can attach it to an email to anyone who wants it since I can't remember the web site I found it on. Just send me your email and I'll send it to you. It's fuzzy but still sounds great.

  • @johnsher2 yup, that's the one I remember from my days as a youth in Southfield, MI watching this from across the river (CKLW). I would love if someone would post that version. I can't find it anywhere on the internet.

  • I too remember this .Live in manchester now but lived in london in 1958, so must have also been networked on ITV. Great to see it again. Watched some of an episode and boy is it dated but still great. thanks vm for posting it.

  • @claiborneray ...yes, im late on this, but that's the line of the theme i grew up with, back in the day on CKLW channel9 out of Windsor to Detroit.

  • I absolutely remember it, and i think it was different chunks of the same overture. "Marching behind william tell, we know well , that our cause it is just" was sung to one strain and "Weeee have a right to be Freee" was sung to another.

  • I watched this show in the Detroit area as well, on the Windsor station Channel 9. I too remember the different theme song, sung to a different melody from the William Tell overture, not the familiar "Lone Ranger" melody.

  • I remember the William Tell TV series from when I was a kid in the early 60s in Manchester, England. I think it was put out by Granada. I used to love this opening sequence. Thanks a lot for posting
