This is a tutorial on how to flash a custom recovery to your LG vortex. This allows you to flash nandroids(a nandroid is a backup of your phone) ,and roms. This allows those of you with 2.2.1 to get on the path to being rooted, either by flashing my nandroid, or a rooted rom. This tutorial will go in depth in this process and if this video doesn't this description will.
Step 1: Download and install the android sdk program that fits your computer best from here:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Step 2: Download this zip file:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1E9AQQKH
Important note:These files belong to getitnowmarketing

Step 3: Extract the contents of the zip file. Put flash_image and recovery-RA-GNM-thunderc-vzw in the root of your phone's sd card (not in a folder). Put psnueter in your platform-tools folder which is located in your android-sdk file which should be located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\ or C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\
Step 4: go to menu-settings-applications-development-check usb debugging
Step 5:hook to computer via usb , mount in modem mode
Step 6: go to start/winows and type in cmd in the search bar, click on it when it pops up A command prompt will open up (a black box)
Step 7: type the following in the black box each command exactly as you see it here (cut and paste if you have to) (do not type anything in parentheses instead follow the instructions and get rid of he parentheses) then hit enter after each command
cd (insert the location of your sdk folder here)/platform-tools/
adb devices (if a number appears you may continue)
adb push ./psneuter /data/local/tmp
adb shell
chmod 0777 data/local/tmp/psneuter
data/local/tmp/psneuter
adb shell
su
cd /data/local/tmp
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
cat /sdcard/flash_image (insert greater sign here) /system/bin/flash_image
chmod 755 /system/bin/flash_image
mount -o remount,ro -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-GNM-thunderc-vzw-1.1.0.img
hold down these buttons in this order home power volume down
make a back up first thing:
backup/restore-nand backup-hit menu key to start the backup process
IF YOU REACHED THIS POINT WITHOUT ANY ERRORS THEN, CONGRATULATIONS YOU HAVE INSTALLED CUSTOM RECOVERY ON YOUR LG VORTEX WITHOUT ROOT!!!!!!
IMPORTANT:DONT GO ANY FURTHER WITHOUT MAKING A NANDROID BACK UP
here is my nandroid:http://www.megaupload.com/?d=COG0F5CB
unzip it and put its contents in your nandroid folder on your sd card of ur phone then flash the nandroid using nandroid restore
It's nice to share your NAND backup since I'm not in Verizon service. Can someone post NAND backup for 2.2.2 or 2.3 (if any) ... I appreciate for the help ...

@feedsbrain i can share 2.2.2 with you but the only reason i haven't given it to anyone is because it does away with custom recovery and im unaware of a method to fix this

@bloodxxsyndicate hmm, it's too bad .. I have recovery-RA-vortex-2.2.1-GNM.img now, from it's name this meant for 2.2.1 ...

@feedsbrain dude i had to flash the rcovery every time i wanted to use it it was a pain in the neck just to make that praticular nandroid and for no gain i mean 2.2.2 added nothing really it just made stuff harder to root if anything it was made soely for patching up the exploits used for the accouterments of root and root itself
bloodxxsyndicate 9 months ago
@feedsbrain not to mention the lack of devs developing any roms for this everyone is very limited. as a matter of fact.... the only way i got 2.2.1 rooted was shear accident i posted this nandroid way before gingerbreak and now it seems all my struggles were unnecessary becuase verizon is cracking down on root
