  • Even tho Big Joe is pulling 10 more lbs than Wajima I always think he is going to nip him at the wire..and every time I watch it..he just doesn't quite get there.Love that horse! Thanks CF. BTW, is the 74 Gulfstream on here somewhere? If it is I can't find it. Thanks for all your tireless work to bring us our best friends that we would otherwise never get to see:)

  • @Tammicat21 I haven't seen the '74 Gulfstream anywhere, but I'll definitely post it if I find it. Thank you for the very kind comments. I greatly appreciate them, and am honored to have met so many nice people on YouTube.

    God bless.

  • Man, Forego seemed to be SNAKEBITTEN by the Marlboro. Painful, but exciting to watch! Bravo!

  • Yes indeed. Forego battled it out with everything he had. Quit wasn't in his DNA!

    Thanks for watching.

  • I had $2.00 to win on Wajima, who paid $10.80 at OTB I believe.

  • Just a little more on this race (Forego is my all time favorite so this race was one of the best remembered and traumatic sports memories of my childhood!) This field was terrific - besides beating Forego and Ancient Title, Wajima was 10 lengths clear of Foolish Pleasure (Kentucky Derby winner) and 14 past Avatar (75 Belmont champ). Royal Glint had won 3 $100,000 races in a month, and Step Lively got the invite based on being in the money 7out of 8 times that year. Wajima - hugely underrated.

  • @STU676 Not me! I had $2.00 on him at 9-2. I was nine years old.

  • In the days when being a top handicap horse really meant something, Ancient Title was one of the horses to be foaled in California. Twelve days before this race Wajima beat Forego, Foolish Pleasure and Ancient Title for the Governor's Stakes, and then beat them again here at the Marlboro. Three hall of famers, twice in two weeks. Two weeks later, Wajima nearly beat Forego again at the Woodward. It was the year of Ruffian and Foolish Pleasure, in 1975 Wajima was truly the best 3yr. old.

  • Although Forego seemed snakebitten in the Marlboro Cup, that's what made his miraculous victory in 1976 that much more satisfying!

  • This was a sensational field!!!!

  • Wajima really was a superstar as well. Many forget this great horse

  • Stellar field of horses and yes 1 of the only times I ever saw Forego on the rail in the stretch turn. "And down the stretch they come and Forego along the rail takes the lead" should be in the Racing Hall of Fame because you never heard that before. Wajima was also a true champion. It was just a shame he had leg problems which also probably contributed to him being syndicated before his racing career ended. Nonetheless, a 3 year old beating the mighty Forego twice says enough about him.
