I do a review of the Rode SVM Stereo VideoMic. In the first segment, I talk about the mic. In the second segment, I hook up the mic to my camera again, and do an EDC (every day carry) check so you can compare the sound quality

  • Do you think this is the camera for making interviews or should i go for the rode videomic?

    Kind regards,

    Johnny from the netherlands

  • @johnnyrinsma - I think would be fine for interviews.

  • That was my first thought. But i also did a direct playback from my camcorder and use a very expensive headset phone. The result is the same. If did this test, let me know!

  • @popitn2nd - check with Rode. I've no idea.

  • great video but I hate the hiss on this mike with a passion. How can you bear it?

  • @HarlequinJitsu Do not buy this mic. The hiss will drive you insane. Mine is brand new and I d sell it tomorrow to get half my money back. Biggest blunder I ever made as I trust Rode as a company but I hate this product. Even on this video you can hear the hiss and noise kick in. Why do people rate it? Its a mystery to me its totally unprofessional and inadequate by my standards.

The Rode NT4 at 3 time the cost is in a different class. That is mic heaven.

  • Can i use it for filmmaking??

  • @SoIHerdUAreATechN00b

Rode VideoMic Directional Video Condenser Microphone (shotgun w/mount) is great for just interviews. The Rode Stereo VideoMic (shown in video) is great all-around solution. You can use it for both interviews and ambient stereo recordings. But I'd go with a directional if you only did interviews.

I have a video testing the stereo capability on my channel.

  • Im gonna use this mic and a canon XA10, is that a good idea?

  • @HarlequinJitsu - you can certainly rely on software, but I think it's better to capture the highest quality audio to reduce and possibly eliminate the need for post production audio work.

  • @HarlequinJitsu Can't you process the video & reduce the hiss? Please answer as I have to choose between this mic & the Azden SGMX shotgun mic. I do both interviews & films bands.

  • Does this play nice with cameras that have autogain??
