This version doesn't require ADB so if you're having problems with ADB, this is your video. Root was just released for the Droid X and I show you how to do it.

Files needed:

Root files:

http://www.wimervision.com/android/root/droidxroot_v2.zip

Software needed:
Astro File Manager
Terminal Emulator

Credit for this goes to Sebastian Kramer, Birdman, [mbm] for the root instructions. Special thanks to Qoncept of Droidforums for saving me some time by writing the guide.

First set of commands:

cd /sqlite_stmt_journals
cp /sdcard/download/exploid ./exploid
chmod 755 exploid

Next set:

./exploid

Last set:
cp /sdcard/download/Superuser.apk /system/app/Superuser.apk
cp /sdcard/download/su /system/bin/su
cp /sdcard/download/busybox /system/bin/busybox
chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
chmod 4755 /system/bin/busybox
rm /system/bin/rootshell
exit

  • so i rooted my phone in accordance with your video....... now that 2.2 is released... i cant get it to download and work on my phone.... what do i do to get the root off??

help plz thanks and great work btw

  • @mikeymontz Root is just superuser.apk and the file su which is stored in /system/app and /system/bin respectively. You can try copying su to /system/xbin before applying the 2.2 update in an attempt to keep root but it doesn't always work. You would use something like root explorer to do it as it makes it very easy to do. I don't believe root itself will stop the ota update but things like removing or renaming or modifying anything in /system can cause problems.

  • Hi wimervision, first off i wanted to say it worked great thank you for making the video, but i have a couple questions.

First, is there a way to unroot the phone after doing it in this method?

    and

Second, i want to do the update to froyo, but all the walkthroughs i have found still require me to get ADB to work, i have tried to get ADB to work on several computers and still no luck, so do you have any suggestions on how to install this update?

  • @eclipsehunter2002 just follow the instructions but instead of copying over the su and superuser files, remove them. rm /system/app/Superuser.apk and rm /system/bin/su

The froyo update is installed using the recovery. Rename the zip to update.zip, place on sdcard, power off, hold home and power on key until it goes into recovery then press the search button, use the volume keys to navigate.

  • hi, will this work for froyo, or does it have to be done before updating froyo? thx
