http://www.mikecelona.net - Impressionistic depiction of the disastrous Challenger space shuttle flight which broke up shortly after liftoff in January 1986. With the subsequent investigation revealing that the astronauts likely did not die until the separated crew compartment impacted on the surface of the Atlantic Ocean, this piece attempts to present the equally muddled vantage points of both the astronauts during their final moments as well as the artist's memories of watching the tragedy unfold on live television at the age of three.

  • Very Cool! What computer and software did you use?

  • I made it with Adobe CS3, primarily with Premiere, After Effects and Photoshop. I like how these programs are available for both platforms because when I was on the go I had the ability to toss the project back and forth between my Mac G5 and PC notebook.

  • Really very good...Video as art, Ambient visuals, and subtlety, (were those loads of little bombers?).

Reminds me a little of "Koyaanisquatsi", which is high praise indeed,if you haven't seen it, you should. Keep up the good work, send me more like this!

  • Thank you, yes I have seen Koyannisquatsi and I'm honored by the comparison! To answer your question about the effects please see my response to ambroziak's comment below.

  • is that animation that starts at 1:10? or are the pixels making it look that way? either way that's my favorite part.

  • p.s. sorry if that was long-winded
