Nice one Tre. I first encountered Scritti back in 1978 when I was still at school. I always loved this early stuff - more than the 80s clatter-fest, Loved The Sweetest Girl but thought songs to Remember a bit overcooked yet underdone.
Green keeps moving on. I adore 'Anomie' from 1999 and think 'White Bread' from 2006 is splendid.
If only he *had* done 'Heal the Pain'!
Happy new year, all

I was never under the impression that Green did anything to be forgiven for. Green always did what he wanted to do.

Hearing this, just beautiful, I'm proud to own this single and the 12" pre langue release and other single from that label, I remember hearing the Peel show and tthe festive 50, I voted for The Sweetest Girl, to this day, it is still one of the finest songs I've ever heard. I was lucky enough to met Green in Edinburgh in '06 and he was so lovely and later heard Janice long read out my email on Radio 2 to Green when he played live, his recallections of the Edinburgh gig were quite entertaining.

This is their very first release, on St Pancras records. Still got my copy somewhere ...

Interesting ,I remember hearing them on John Peel and thinking they were pretty cool. Then I heard the Sweetest Girl and all that changed, you`re right commercial success is no guarantee of quality in fact quite the opposite.

PONDSCUM77 On the contrary, Green always did what he loved. He most definitely follows his heart musically. Having followed his career closely these many years, I've seen much, and Green just does whatever he wants, when he wants, regardless of whats currently popular. Take his ragga stage in 91, for example. It was not a "pop" thing to do, and his sales reflected that. To this day he's not released anything as successful as his 80s material. He grows and moves on, period. He does what he loves.

Some really hard shit to find! I was lucky some years back to have found copies of all of Scritti's early work. I'm really thankful! This is great. But I love the entire breadth of their work. Like most people, especially here in the States, I was introduced to them in 1985 while a teenager. I love Green (and his cohorts) in whatever incarnation they happen to be.
