In Egyptian mythology, before a soul could pass the threshold to the other worlds, and to rebirth, they must first encounter the Scale of the Goddess Maat. Their hearts were weighed on this scale against a feather from Maat's headress; if their hearts were too heavy, they could not pass through. Each soul is asked the "Questions of Maat", which concerned how well each person lived the life he or she had. This performance excerpt, danced by Sharon Kihara and Dorit Bat Shalom (as a writer being inspired by the Goddess Maat) is from a play called " Woman With 1,000 Faces", performed at the Black Box Theatre in Oakland as part of the "Masks of the Goddess" Project (2002). The mask of Maat is by Lauren Raine (www.rainewalker.com)
