This simple Lego Mindstorms NXT Line Follower uses only one light sensor and two servo motors. I put together this line follower without instructions except on the back wheel which I copied of one of the Lego Mindstorms booklets. This programming is simple as the light sensor waits until it detects fewer than 48% of light to turn one servo motor two degrees. When it senses over 48% of light it turns the other motor two degrees. I could make it go a little bit faster but it is not as accurate or smooth and can get confused when going round the start lines as some of them are 90 degree turns and when moving so fast it can miss the line at times and have to do an entire 360 degrees until it finds the line again. I've only put it only a two degree change but for even smoother results than these you can change them to 1 degree turns. I will soon be purchasing the new Lego Mindstorms NXT 2 set so I will be able to develop and make larger movies with more complicated programming. When I get the new set i will make a new line follower which i hope will become much smoother as it will use two light sensors and also a lot faster, so look out for the next line follower!

  • @Jmaz926 no, u do color sensor, light mode, so it recognizes the difference in light

  • @qosglitchy It comes with the set.

  • Where do u get that grid from?

  • you should try a different style programming rather than bang-bang

  • @Jmaz926 NO! it is really hard, u got to tell to allways when the color sensor sense white, go to the right, in acircle way is easy, but when u need to do curves to the left and right gets pretty hard..

  • to program it do you just tell it to follow the color that you want in this case black?

  • it is so slow u_u

  • @Sonicpod Cool! That's what I've been using!

  • @Dinoman217 light sensor

  • What sensor does it require to follow a line?
