Fact: they are called sperm whales because of a substance in their heads called spermaceti, a fatty oil that was once used in cosmetics.

The best thing to do would have been to tie a chain around its tail, drag it out to deep water and let it go. Sharks would get a free meal, then it would sink to the bottom and provide food to deep-sea animals.
