@fatmanfiftythousand So, I'm thinking now that it happened in '01/'02.
-
@Hal20062b You remember wrong because that didn't happen in 2000.
-
I remember the Yankees moving to WCBS-TV in 2000
-
@JesseLee85719 And half of the report about it may be obtained from this video.

You picked the correct year! Why? Because Tower Air was shut down in the middle and end of that year (It facing Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in February and all!)
-
This definitely is from 2000. Read the Wikipedia article on "Tower Air"; it mentions the date it ceased operations.

You guys are not alone. When I watched this clip, I didn't like it when the intros began there. Usually most stations start with a tease of the newscast, and after the credits are done, they make it full-screen and start the news from there. KTVT used to do that in its first few years as the new CBS station in DFW.
-
Luckily, the networks have stopped letting stations do local inserts during the credits before the news. It's just network promos now. The downside to that is that they can't tease anything during them... NBC used to leave a music bed from the Leno promo for stations to use if they don't want to use their own music package.

I hate the news intros being inserted into the credits of the last show...if you tuned in from something else it would often get chopped up and you'd miss something. Sometimes it would be a teaser that was supposed to keep you tuned in...
I am also frustrated with some new automation the stations get as the clips are always not there on time and they apologize a lot.
This video is from 2000, the Disney/ABC incident took place during the middle of that year. Anyhoo, the open was from 2000-2001 because the music package (Edd Kalehoff) was used during that time, according to SMNMA. (SouthernMedia News Music Archive)

I guess Disney and Time Warner made some sort of deal in that time; my guess would be as good as yours for that much.
