Horrible Ian Gillan... just disgusting
-
quell'acuto lo trovi nel live BBC '79-'80 della Gillan band, esattamente in "roller" e "smoke on the water", cmq sia ti consiglio di guardare i vari video presenti qui scrivendo Ian Gillan Vocal Range...

@nazzare79 D6? a me risulta che più in su di un A5 (quello di child on time) non sia mai andato, per altro pezzo che per pochi anni è riuscito a fare live

are you KIDDING me?????

Whi?

Call me old fashioned, but this shouldn't be sung in English. Ever. Especially with Ian Gillan singing.
On the other hand, it's nice to see to singers of different genres combine their voices. And it does in a sense, make opera easier for people who complain they can't understand it/won't read subtitles. Even so, "no, no!"

Remember the scene from Milos Forman's "Amadeus"? The Italians didn't want Mozart to write an opera in German, too. I do agree rather with your "other hand" ;)))

Yes, but Mozart was Austrian. Thus, German was his native tongue. Puccini was Italian = Nessun Dorma = written in Italian. Of course, that doesn't mean composers didn't write in different languages. That's fine.
What I was saying was that it sucks to translate a song like this classic into English when it wasn't written that way. And it also sucks that Gillan was singing. His voice is not an opera voice and it sounded bad.

I'd rather say that his (Gillan's) voice sounded... different. At first hearing it sounded to me bad, too. But more I listen, more I like it.
I can understand Your point of view, Your arguments, but You must know, that I learned music on The Beatles and Deep Purple firstly... Classic music and opera came to me later ;)
Anyway - thank You for interesting commentary.
