I am proud to be Jamaican. A Jamaican created Hip Hip!!. So we have 3 genres that are world famous. Reggae, Dancehall and Hip Hop. God bless Jamaica.

Hip Hop wasn't a one-man invention.. First of all Hip Hop is a cultur consisting of four elements B-boying, rap (MC'ing), graffiti and dj'ing - it's not one thing.. Secondly, Herc developed the foundation of the HipHop dj as we know them today with his new technique, but didn't single-handely create the whole cultur which brings me to the third: If HipHop was created by anything is was by the social and economical problems, and the mistreatment of the poor - especially those in the South Bronx..

Perhaps you should take your own advice 'Grab a book- READ some heavy stuff instead of watching some documentaries or something in a magazine', As for references try:
Black Noise - Tricia Rose
Hip Hop America - Nelson George
Ulf Poschardt - DJ Culture
David Toop - Rap Attack
Forman and Neale (Eds) - That's the Joint
Your quote is a secondary reference, from Steven Hager's book Hip Hop which is an illustrated history, not an academic book. And Hager's quote is taken out of context here.

Herc was the first to hold a block party, he was the first to take the Jamaican idea of toasting over records and to adopt it in the Bronx. From his first sessions Hop Hop developed, Grandmaster Flash and Africa Bambaataa both got their inspiration from Herc. Turnablism comes from Herc. Rap (Toasting) and MCing (hyping the crowd) were separate in Jamaica. James Brown 'rapped' as did the Lost Poets and Wolfman Jack, Herc didn't, but none of them rapped over records. BBoying is from Bambaataa.
