http://CartoonSNAP.com - Right in the middle of doing the inking on Patrick, I stopped to fix some light weight issues on SpongeBob. This is a great example of one of the features that makes Adobe Illustrator such a great tool for cartoon and comic book inking; you can go back and change the line weight at any time, while still preserving the thick and thin variation in the original line. There's no need to go back and re-ink the line... you could just revise the thickness however you want.

You can download your own copy of the custom Adobe Illustrator inking template at http://cartoonsnap.com/template/

There are many more examples of using the pencil tool to reshape the brush strokes, and using the copy and paste commands to save time by reusing various drawing elements. The arrange command is used frequently in this video, and even though I've demonstrated it many times already, it's worth repeating because it is so incredibly useful.

  • CartoonSNAP, can i scan a drawing into my computer and then make the line thicker using Adobe Illustrator and can i make the lines one thickness?

  • @connect121 Yes, you do all of those things...you just need to change the brush settings or use the pen tool. Have fun!

  • so like how are you doing that brush stroke

the thick and thin type deal

  • @Qwaybabii Check out video #3 on brush settings...it shows how I get the thick and thin line. You need a drawing tablet, too.

  • what are you dong to make your lines smooth once you've drawn them?? Is it a program or can you do it with illustrator?

  • @landis346 You can control the smoothness of the lines in Illustrator. In one of the first few videos ion this series, I share all my settings so you can get the same effects!
