Far removed from the cell-phone zombies and sugar high children (hmmm.. that sounds like a band name doesn't it ?) Iwama seems almost totally untouched by the last 30 years .
There is a slower pace here, and the locals have a more dignified life-style. People, young and old, are very polite and kind to visitors, and seem, rightfully, quite proud of there town and it's beauty and history.
Proof positive that all change doesn't equal progress.
This is where Aikido finally developed and where Ueshiba sensei (founder of Aikido) and the late great Saito Morihiro (succeeded by his son Hitohiro) spend there days working the land and developing their skills.
Sorry to those who asked for clips of training, no Aikido in this video either.
I don't study Aikido myself so I'd have to be really lucky to happen on some out-door training.
Maybe I'll be luckier next time.
Hope you'll enjoy the clips anyway .

  • I have decided to live in one of these beautiful rural villages in Japan. I am absolutely awed at their beauty!

  • Iwama is one of the the most picturesque and unassuming little places I've ever visited. There isn't even an ATM machine available. But it offers so much tranquillity and beauty.

And it is the home town of Aikido.

    The locals are lovely too.

  • Beautiful, it is so nice to see Iwama from a non-Aikido perspective. This is the Iwama I fell in love with. Thank you.

  • Totally my pleasure !

It is such a beautiful place it's difficult not to fall in love with it.

  • beautiful and meditative

  • Thank you

  • Maybe you're right about the statue !

It seemed quite lifelike too, even

though I have only seen Ueshiba sensei on film.

Thanks, I'm happy you liked it.

  • You are absolutely right,I envy most of those people every day.

    Happy you liked the clips.

    Have an awesome week.

  • Nice video. Perhaps the first to feature the recently unveiled statue of the founder.

  • Beautiful clips! I love the scenery in the area. You can almost feel the peace, even though this medium! It must have been a fantastic place to visit, and to experience a slow, relaxing pace...those people I envy
