After debate on the Paycheck Fairness Act, Rep. Rob Andrews and George Miller denounce a Republican parliamentary motion to kill the bill. Although the wage gap between men and women has narrowed since the passage of the landmark Equal Pay Act in 1963, gender-based wage discrimination remains a problem for women in the U.S. workforce. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, women only make 77 cents for every dollar earned by a man. The Institute of Women's Policy Research found that this wage disparity will cost women anywhere from $400,000 to $2 million over a lifetime in lost wages. Furthermore, loopholes created by courts and weak sanctions in the law have allowed many employers to avoid liability for engaging in gender-based pay discrimination. The Paycheck Fairness Act, introduced by U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), will strengthen the Equal Pay Act and close the loopholes that have allowed employers to avoid responsibility for discriminatory pay.
Doesn't this make all of you want to become "Mama Grizzlies"?Give women a sense of ##ahem## "empowerment", but still pay them shit.

They voted against it because it's a myth, and for once they were right. The .77 figure compares CEO, maid, fast food workers etc solely on the basis of gender, and ignores part time/full-time distinctions. It's 5% difference between men and women with the same job/hours on average. Since women are 3 times a likely not to counter-offer at hiring, this is crap. The only thing this does is further reward mediocrity.

Oops, I just noticed some typos. Let me see, oh yes I meant to say, "Shame on you Republicans for taking an August break and going against a bill that help women get equal pay rights for the same jobs and end pay discrimination against womenwho have the same exact jobs." I did change some of the message, just to make it sound better.

Shame on you Republicans for taking an August break and going agains a Bill that help women get equal pay and end joy pay discrimination. You see Nancy, someone told my mom one time that the the job she works at, which is a medical alternative funding specialist, she should be actually paid about 20 dollars per hour, yet she gets paid 16 dollars per hour. She is on workers comp right now because she fell off some stairs at work and damaged her foot. She only gets, I think about 324 dollars now.

On July 31, 2008 All the Democrats along with 14 conscientious Republicans voted and Passed HR 1338 the Fairness Paycheck Act.
The vast majority of the Republicans voted AGAINST this bill!! The woman were paid on average $0.75 to each male $1.00
The Republicans talk a good game on TV when they say they support the American People ... but the way they vote irrefutably prove that they lie.
Let's give the Democrats a Greater Majority In Congress by kicking the Republicans out of office.
