Final round of the Sightreading tournament. It's labeled a 13, and I did so because of the really hard syncopated rhythms in the second half of the song + corssovers...but both players nailed them and managed to * the chart. I guess I fail at writing hard stuff, lol. After playing it myself, it's still a pretty fun chart, esp if you like that less-traditional SoCal tournament pack sort of stuff. It's sorta like Code of the Samurai.

Song is Inner Universe (speed trance mix) by Vospi. It's a remix of Inner Universe by Yoko Kanno feat. Origa, which was used as the Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex OP (which is where most people have probably heard it)

  • Most players' idea of syncopation is Utopia, or the a la menthe. The difficulty of songs is derived only from the motions involved, not syncopation or sightreading (unless a huge jack comes up).

I want to try this file though!

  • By syncopation I meant the rhythms in the latter half of the file, that follow Vospi's use of some synth instrument in off-beat rhythms, that basically don't start on the downbeat like(- e & a - e & a 3 e & a - e) and so on.

It's pretty hard to hear from the audio here, but it's evident when playing or listening to the song.

Link is in the Description, but this'll also be a part of the mini-pack I'm releasing around the time of the RIP tournament :D

  • Yeah I downloaded that pack. The charts were decent although I didn't like Big Blue, the 8th streams were awful. Destroyed the feel of the song.

This chart is a good one though. I can't really do 13s but I think I could get about 85% on this. Like I said, syncopated 16ths are no obstacle whatsoever, we're just used to any 16th pattern in 4/4. So Deep taught us everything we needed to know. What we need is more Dream Theater and Venetian Snares files!

  • Sorry about Big Blue, but I wasn't looking to copy Dukamok's chart or anything. The 8ths in that for the most part follow the rhythm of S.S.H's guitar strums, and I find the one 8th note stream when his "solo" begins to be pretty fun. *shrug*

I agree with you though, I love rhythmically oriented stuff. From the DDR Illini pack, 0x1311 is one of those kind of charts, as are the charts Etude for a Dragon and We Met Dat Night (from ITG Rebirth). I'm writing some "harder" stuff for my pack too.

  • I think it's hilarious that Rynker and I look almost identical in our movements when we play.

  • That just means you're going to pass Beta soon ;P
