Yes, Virginia, 6-Roadwheel MTVL, IFVL Gavins SWIM.

In water. In Lakes and Rivers. Just Like 5-Roadwheel M113 Gavins swim. In fact, they will swim in OCEANS with water jets and nose kits, too:

6-Roadwheel MTVLs and IFVL Gavins were swam at Fort Knox for the Platform Performance Demonstration (PPD) covered in ARMOR magazine for posterity. The manufacturer, BAE has a web site and it lists these vehicles swimming with swim kits. Call 1-800 OBVIOUS.

What do you need, a burning bush to tell you this?

Here's an U.S. Army Command & General Staff College School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) report by Infantry officer, Major William Sutey on the need for cross-country MOBILITY (XCM) from M113 Gavin light tracked tanks to improve LIGHT INFANTRY FORCE mobility, protection and firepower. READ IT.

  • Machine gun "female" tanks can kill exposed infantry and suppress them as you noted. If their bullets have HE fill (aka shell then) they can explode targets like car bombs, thin-skin trucks like LAV-III/Strykers that cannot have adquate armor layering on them etc. You are right, we need a "male" tank with large HE shells to bust buildings/bunkers

  • Hoho, that's a blow to the Bradley in that respect. Same 25mm turret, right?

  • It can be exact same 2-man turret; that variant is the Egyptian Infantry Fighting Vehicle (EIFV). However, we don't want to smother infantry in back with a 2-man turret and get Bradley disease (crew starts wanting to fight only mounted).

  • That turret's so shitty. I mean, 25mm destroys people but that's about all it's good for (and 30mm HE destroys people better anyway). Do you think the Egyptians would do better with a 30mm turret or cupola mount rather than the one they have now?

  • The 25mm Bushmaster bandwagon is something Allies jump on after seeing the Bradley but not EXPERIENCING the infantry smothering and complexity with the dual-feed, YES we can get better 30mm firepower at less weight/complexity with a 1-man turret and enable a dismount leader to have a perch like the AIFV Gavin variant does; except in 25mm.

  • Looks like some Gavin-bashers just got served a slice of humble pie.
