Stewie (sun conure parrot) demonstrates the ring toss trick (putting rings on a peg). This was trained using "clicker training." He gets safflower seeds for a training reward.
Please note: The cage he is "performing" on is not the cage he lives in. It's just a travel carrier, and much too small for an everyday cage.
Stewie is adorable!!! where did you get the ring toss toy?
is that his cage he is playing on top off? if it is I recommend a bigger cage, that one is really way too small for a sunny. Have you seen the HQ flight cages, they aren't expensive and are considerably bigger.

Absolutely agree! Which is why he has a flight cage. :) The cage you see in the video is his travel carrier.
I guess I should put that in the description... wouldn't want anyone to think that's appropriate for him to live in.
re. the prop. If you go to my blog and search for "parrot props", you'll find a post with a list of various places I've found conure-sized training toys.

Wow. I just got Kiki my Sun yesterday so we're just working on step up for now. Any advice for a first time bird person, especially with suns?
P.S. She doesn't bite and is usually very quiet except when she REALLY wants attention.
Thank You. :)
P.S.S. What do you feed him and how much? So far, I've been feeding him a handful of harrison's coarse pellets, some vegetables, and a little fruit. I use apples for treats. (She absolutely LOVES them). Is that okay?

Hi Mike. Congrats on your new bird. Be sure not to reward the yelling by paying attention after she is loud, otherwise she'll learn to get louder. Always reward good behavior and ignore behavior you don't want to reinforce.
Apples are good to use for training rewards. They do have a lot of sugar in them, so don't make them a huge part of your sun's diet.
Check out my blog or Google "barbara heidenreich" to learn more about positive reinforcement training.
Have fun!
