Ok, so this probably was the catch of the year on the Abbeville Sub for me...so far. I had been seeing videos of these two units in Folkston, going back and forth between Waycross and Florida. Somehow, these units made their way up to Atlanta on a train, thus, ending up on today's Q194-12, with the Grey Ghost C40-8 #7509 trailing. I first encountered this train in the siding at Auburn and saw through between two buildings the Dash 9 first, then, the Grey Ghost caught my eye. I turned down the road and got a few pics of the unit with my cell phone, the proceeded to set up in Winder and waited about 15 minutes before the train arrived. Enjoy!

  • Yea, I caught this duo, again, at Folkston on August 6, 2009 going south on a Lakeland, Fla. bound train. Video will be uploaded probably next week.

Obviously he went north again sometime after that (probably on the 8th) and now he's out of this territority for the first time in at least two months.

  • I was wishing I was in Folkston to catch this rare unit, but, to my excitement, it came up to Atlanta, and I was lucky enough to catch it on this train.

  • WOAH!!! I've gotta catch that thing..

  • Thats exactly what I said. There are only two other C40-8 Stealth units besides this one.

  • I hate you what can i say. Kidding, but still i cant believe i missed this.......

What time was he through Winder, looks like after 4:30 for sure. Probably one of those trains i saw heading north on ATCS that i was too lazy to go catch....

Glad someone managed to catch it though, good vid!

  • Haha, I understand. This wasn't too far after 4:30, probably around 5. I'm sure you know this, but this pair of engines has been together for a while now.

  • unfortunately I must have been just a few days short of catching this duo, it wouldve been a great catch

  • Well this is now with yellow ends and yellow nose.. I've caughten it once..

  • Yeah i thought it would be around that time, was getting back to the house at 5. Wasnt planning on going out in the evening till 7:00, theres one shot ive been dying to get that you can only do during the last hours of day in the summer, usually i just end up sitting at home and miss things. If they stay together, maybe they will come back to Atlanta and i can catch them.

  • I've been railfanning there and I might see something rare! I do know that the units that go through Monroe, tend to end back up there about a week later after it first showed up. So I might see it. The locomotives that are on Q194 aren't always on Q199 so I might see it! But you are very right, you can't see everything. Though there have been a couple of YN1 SD40-2's on the Monroe Sub that I've seen though.
