@zvictorone Looking back along the train isn't a 'habit' it's something drivers are trained to do when pulling away from a standing start, particularly at stations. It's done so the driver can ensure all is well with the train behind him, and so he can see the guard's signal (red lamp/flag) if a sudden stop is required (i.e. dimwit passengers trying to open doors when the train is moving, one example). Modern trains with power doors etc and computer control systems don't require this practice.

the driver should be looking forward, not at the platform behind him,a lot of drivers do this ,it is a nasty habit .

lucky bugger, im only jellous though lol, that must have been an amazing experience, i would have loved to have been a main line driver in the 60s/70s, driving these awsome beasts, that experience i guess will stay with you the rest of your life, and i to love as you say these incredible locos, well done

I love the Deltics!
It is extremely gratifying to see someone younger than myself enjoy the power of the Deltics. I was a passed cleaner at Kings Cross in 64-65 and have been on all members of the class. I cannot begin to describe the awesome power of these locomotives when running light engine from somewhere such as Peterborough back to Kings Cross as I have done on several occasions, long may they continue!

Thanks for your kind words. It's good that you know what I'm getting at. I would love experience a footplate ride at full cry on the East Coast Main Line. In this clip we were only doing about 20 MPH on one engine.
