GM LS 5.3 V8 swap project

Catching up on the times.. I have thrown in the towel on old obsolete engines and have moved forward into a newer technology. I have given up on my 455 for the simple fact that it is expensive to drive with high fuel prices.. and an LS engine will provide me with better all around performance and economy.. I hope.

New technology?? Its a pushrod engine!!! Nothing new with a pushrod engine at all. How long has a pushrod engine been around???

@JardineRT1 No kidding.. pushrod tech has been around since the late 1800s.. but this is refined technology.. these small displacement engines make sick power for not very much work and not much coin... I was referring to new technology against a pushrod engine of the 60s and 70s, with NEW gasket sealing, cylinder head flow, combustion chamber design, overall refined engineering features these engines are great for what they are.

If I was you I wouldn't start off with a carburetor. I know it's personal preference but just an opinion.. Also why not go with an ls6 intake or like a FAST 90? Or for a cam why not like a 228r? Something that's still relatively small with a nice curve. I would say that an LS4 with an LS6 intake, 228r cam, some 243 heads and a good tune (+ bolt-ons obviously) should throw down 350-375 horses to the tire- just a guess.

Hey congrats on ditching the Olds V8......I'm damn glad I did!! I won't lie, I will miss the old lump as it was my first Olds V8 build. Was fun but I too am looking forward to dropping my 383 LS1 under the hood when it get's completed.

Who cares if its a pushrod engine. Over head cam engines (1919) have been around almost just as long, the Wankel rotary engine has been around since 1951, electric motors have been around sine the early days of the automobile, so we see that no "real" new mainstream technology for cars has come out in 60 years. I think we all know what he meant by new is the efficiency that comes with a new engine. Cool swap by the way! Using the stock fuel injection set up is not that expensive by the way.

@madmack692 The truck oil pan will work fine.. the only issue is that it hangs really low.. im going to remove about 2 inches from my sump and simply have it rewelded.. These swaps are a lot easier than most people think

I was thinking of putting an LS motor in my 88 monte ss. I was reading up on it, and I think to get the LS to fit, you have to get a custom made oil pan. Maybe someone makes an aftermarket? Right now I am leaning toards a newer vortec 350 w/ the compatable intake and stock carb (since it was just rebuilt.) Keep us posted! Looks like a cool project.
