If you want to get the "beta" enemy skill at the earliest possible, this is how. Do note that this is quite a challenging task and you'll need to train quite a bit beforehand. The big benefit is that this fire-elemental attack is very effective for a ways to come in the story line (though it costs 35 MP). Before attemping, however, you'll need at least 1300 HP (this is at around level 25 or so) along with the "elemental" materia joined with "fire" in the armor to significantly lessen the damage. You get the "elemental" materia at the Shinra Headquarters building during the "guess the password" mission and getting it on the first try. If you were to check the category of the entries, you'll find a misplaced file. Note the number of the misplaced file and count the letters. If the misplaced one was "6 this is an example", you'd count 6 letters from the left, the "S" in "is". Do this with all four then unscramble to find it. To be safe, save the game beforehand. You can still do it without the elemental materia, it's just a lot harder. This attack is fire-elemental which is why the "elemental + fire" materia combination needs to be present in the armor. The attack does about 1200 damage which is why you need so much HP and the elemental materia (which halves this to help with survival). It can take a while and you mainly just need to somehow encourage it to use it. It'll knock characters out and when that happens, don't worry if everyone that remains gets defeated as you won't get a "game over". If everyone is present, however, then you do have a cause for concern as, if everyone is defeated, then it will be game over.

  • Sadness status and back row help as well. Those are omitted and make it survivable with almost game-starting HP and stats.

  • @ulillillia No worries, it happens. Thanks for the vid though it helped.

  • Ah, a triple negative (meaning only one negative applies, "not game over"). I apparently misunderstood something, my fault.

  • @ulillillia Just to further clarify. In my second response I wrote "Nope it's not." Which was me agreeing to you saying "It's not exactly game over" so if that is what confused you there is your clarification.

  • @ulillillia Where exactly did I say it was game over? I said I had to TRY four times to get the beta enemy skill. I never said I died and had to reload my game. I only had to face the zorm 4 times until he used it on the character equipped with enemy skill materia. If you read what I wrote correctly you would see that is all I have said. Or are you just trying to provoke a pointless argument?

  • You're contradicting yourself. It's not game over if someone gets knocked out and yet you're saying it is in the first 3 words. Then you mention that you start back at the back of the swamp, as if you never crossed it, of which is the correct case.

  • @ulillillia Nope it's not, they will start you off at the edge of the swamp to try again or go on about your business lol

  • If I recall, if someone gets knocked out (eliminated from battle) and the others die, it's not exactly game over.

  • Got beta enemy skill earliest point in the game, took four tries because the character equipped with enemy skill kept getting knocked off screen. Beat at lvl 15 Cloud,13 Aeris and 15 Red. I had fire + elemental materia equipped on armor of one character and enemy skill. Cast Bio and kept healing until he finally cast Beta on me, wiped everyone out but thankfully the elemental + fire character took less damage and with a quick elixer I managed to wait out the next bio hit which took out the enemy.

  • I got it at level 25 when I had like each party member with 1000-1100hp. I used fire ring on cloud who had the enemy skill materia equipped and equipped long range onto weakest party member (tifa)

And when the battle started I used the big guard enemy skill for barrier/m barrier/haste. Then used a T/S Bomb for gravity (depleting 1/2 hp)

Barret got taken out by the zolom after using his limit break and then the zolom used beta which killed tifa leaving cloud to take out the zolom! =)
