How I clean my espresso machine with citric acid - a cheap and all natural cleaner. Citric acid is much stronger than vinegar. http://www.islandhandyman.ca

  • THEY SAY IN LABEL WEAR GLOVES WHEN I BUY CITRIC ACID TO MY ESPRESSO MACHINE AND YOU DRINK IT NOW !! SO TELL ME PLEASE HOW I CLEN MY BREVILLE ESPRESSO MACHINE WITH THIS POWDER AND SHE DONT HAVE BACKFLUSHING ?

  • @robotmotor - that's the lawyers talking. Cirtic acid is the stuff in kid's sour candies and fake fruit juices - it really can't hurt you. (Now I suppose if you made a super strong solution of it and left your hand in it for 6 hours you might get a rash.) Just put it trhough your Breville as if you are making espresso - no backflushing invloved.

  • @KUKEN222A im assuming that alof of the cheaper models wont recomend this because the internals are made of mostly plastic tubing and probably not a brass boiler. chem reactions might deteriate the boiler....and the plastic tubing might harden and become brittle. just a guess though im no scientist

  • Most Citric acid is manufactured from distillilng oil, and is not a natural product.

You have to specify cirtic acid from natural products eg lemons

My problem is the filter in which place the coffee is blocked - how do I clean that?

  • Use Durgol Swiss Espresso Cleaner! You can use citric acid a dozen times and it won't work as well as 1 use of Durgol! Its worth the cost. Bottom line it works!

  • @robphippen yup my bad i got them mixed up, not the first time i've done that haha :D

  • @kingdarko Vitamin C is ascorbic acid, not citric acid.

  • i drink a heaped tea spoon of citric acid AKA vitamin C daily :D

  • If you need a better example...I'd be happy to take a dump in your espresso machine before you clean it!

  • While descaling the water in your machine should be as COLD AS POSSIBLE, i.e. switch it off after flusing the citric acid through the boiler. Otherwise, insoluble calcium citrate could get stuck in your boiler.

  • i like when he says "...citric acid is found in many soda pops, so is totally natural ( like soda pops are)..." and...one liter if you are anywhere in the rest of the world! not just canada LOL
