The V Foundation for Cancer Research was founded in 1993 by ESPN and the late Jim Valvano, legendary North Carolina State basketball coach and ESPN commentator. Since 1993, The Foundation has raised more than $115 million to fund cancer research grants nationwide. It awards 100 percent of all new direct cash donations and net proceeds of events directly to cancer research and related programs. The Foundation awards grants through a competitive awards process strictly supervised by a Scientific Advisory Board. 1983... I was a jr in high school. I had lived in the Houston area... I was a HUGE Cougars fan. I was so depressed after losing to NC State in the national championship game.

I just could not comprehend how or why we lost that game.

But in hindsight... I get it. It couldn't have gone any other way... it went how it was supposed to. I wouldn't change a thing.

RIP Jimmy V.. a great man.

If the fact that everyone in the audience knew about his fight was not enough to move one to tears.. his entertaining speaking on the passion to daily move oneself to tears.. or the [not shown in this clip] concluding singer that sang "did you ever know you were my hero". i get misty remembering this moment even.
