Jimmy Valvano's 1993 ESPY Speech. "Don't give up, don't ever give up."
The V Foundation for Cancer Research was founded in 1993 by ESPN and the late Jim Valvano, legendary North Carolina State basketball coach and ESPN commentator. Since 1993, The Foundation has raised more than $70 million to fund cancer research grants nationwide. It awards 100 percent of all new direct cash donations and net proceeds of events directly to cancer research and related programs. The Foundation, which has received five consecutive top 4-star ratings from Charity Navigator, awards grants through a competitive awards process strictly supervised by a Scientific Review Committee. "Cancer can take away all my physical ability. It cannot touch my mind; it cannot touch my heart; and it cannot touch my soul. And those three things are going to carry on forever."
Touching speech, very touching speech-especially when it was on the day I turned a decade old. With that, I'll keep his words forever since my dad had prostate cancer, but now lives since it was caught early. James Thomas Anthony Valvano to me is an inspiration and a hero.
David Cook, thanks for another Life Priorities reminder. After your appearance in the Green Man suit at the WVa State Fair, one of your more eloquent fans posted the following on DCO: "This is what it's all about. That whole WVa concert sums it up. It's about being happy, having fun, singing, dancing, making everyone happy and loving everyone. That's why we all are here. One of the many reasons I adore David Cook is he taught me that, reminded me , cause I had completely forgotten." (swanny)
Come on, man. Why did you feel the need to pollute this video with your own personal agenda and beliefs? This is a beautiful, moving speech that was intended to inspire people and put a face on a horrible disease. There's no need for you to throw your personal agenda into it this video. Go post your message on a cancer research forum. Leave the rest of us to admire this great speech.
