The V Foundation for Cancer Research was founded in 1993 by ESPN and the late Jim Valvano, legendary North Carolina State basketball coach and ESPN commentator. Since 1993, The Foundation has raised more than $115 million to fund cancer research grants nationwide. It awards 100 percent of all new direct cash donations and net proceeds of events directly to cancer research and related programs. The Foundation awards grants through a competitive awards process strictly supervised by a Scientific Advisory Board. I remember learning about this in 7th grade im in 9th now but my school on the day Talon Challage we raise money to give to the V-Foundation we have a blood drive against the school we play agaist and see who can raise the most money for the foundtion this we been doing this for years now and i think its really cool:)!

I remember when Jimmy V died. I cried like a baby... This still to this day brings me to tears. I laughed, I thought and I cried. Thanks, Jimmy!

My dad died suddenly in his sleep 12 days ago. Actually, he was considered a 12 year cancer cure. His original diagnosis came in 1993 when Jimmy V said "don't give up. . . don't ever give up." I remember holding on to those words with hope. Mourning my father tonight. I needed to remember those words. I am going to give to the Jimmy V foundation tonight so that hope will be there for another scared young person when they need it. Thank you Jimmy V.
