ch. 2

Nick's p.o.v

"Jonas...here's your target." The man i call my boss said as he slid a photo across the dark marbled table. I reached out for the picture and examined it as much as possible. Fine, brunette hair that reached down to her chest. Beautiful, almost golden brown eyes and pink lips that curved perfectly. A beauty she was. Usually the target wouldnt catch my attention...but this one definitely did. What would a grgeous girl like her be assasined for?
"Age 18. She lives in Little Springs, Texas on 16 Rosegarden Street" He quickly said as i quickly wrote down the address. Once again, i looked closley as the picture. The girl was my age exactly. On the info, her birthday was the same as mine. She wasnt just any regular girl down the street. She was beautiful in sight. I was curious to know what her name was...but i wasnt allowed to know that information.
"Why is she set for assassination?" i asked carefully, hoping he would atleast answer that.
"Mr. Jonas...you know that i cant answer that. Classified." he explained. I sighed...knowing he would say that. I nodded slowly and grabbed my gun from the table. "How much time do i have?" i asked before i left.
"Less than 24 hours. She must be dead by then." he answered. I felt something odd in the pit of my stomach. I bowed before walking outside, catching for the next plane to Texas.

Star's p.o.v

"Live life to your fullest, Star. You'll find you're true happiness someday, I promise." David once said to me when i was 10. But of course, i didnt completely understand what he meant at the time. What was the true reason of worth living? Money? Family? Did my brother ever find out before his death?
"STAR! STAR! OPEN THE DOOR!" A loud, panicky voice screamed from the front door. Loud cries followed after. "STAR! PLEASE! HELP ME!" The same shrieking voice begged. I quickly ran over and opened the door. The person banging on it quickly ran in with fright. Before i fully recognized the person, she talked quickly.
"STAR YOU NEED TO HIDE ME! MY DAD....MY DAD...HE'S DRUNK!" my next door neighbor, Demi cried as she slammed the door behind her. She had fresh black and blue bruises covering her pale white face, and blood dripping from her arms. I was terrified just at the sight. She cried helplessly on my shoulder as i hugged her tightly with all my energy i had. This wasnt the first time that her father abused her. If we told the polive...he would threaten to kill her. She was stuck.
Suddenly, i large pounding on the door came moments after. "DEMETRIA! I KNOW YOU'RE IN THERE! GET THE FUCK OUT HERE, BITCH!" we heard her father's words piercing the air. Demi screamed. I quickly took her hand and led her to our small pull-out couch as she cried hysterically, trying to block off her father's words.
I quickly closed all the curtains, and locked all the doors in the house. I returned back to Demi as she hugged me tightly, needing a friend deeply.

After her father left, i knew Demi shouldnt be living in that type of household anymore. I decided to call my mom and explain the terrible incident.
"Of course Demi can stay at our house. She can stay as long as she needs." her voice sounded in agreement.
"Until we find a way to report her father." i finished her sentence.

And thats when suddenly, i had a flashback about my own father...the international criminal.
The only memories ive ever had with him was when he needed a hideout when he was in trouble. My mother always let him in. Why? Apparently she loved him...and of course she still probably does. Because thats what love does to you. it just traps you in some type of relationship with a man that you could barely know by the time you're 40.
My dad changed his name and made a fake ID so that when the police looked for him, there would be no trace of him. And it also made our family safe in a way. But i hate that man, and i always will.
Licing life without a father is tough enough. I dont need any problems backfiring on us for his mistakes.
