The CERES Café serves food that is good for you and good for the planet.

We use seasonal produce grown in CERES market gardens or by local farmers to prepare wholesome, delicious organic food. Coffee and chocolate are sourced from Fairtrade organisations. The Café uses water conservation, waste minimization and recycling to keep its environmental footprint low.

We encourage customers to avoid waste. We don't offer coffee in disposable cups and we give you your takeaway food in a compostable paper bag.

CERES Café serves wholesome seasonal food made from produce grown in CERES Market Gardens or sourced from local farmers.

Making sustainable food choices isn't just about what you eat, it is also about what you choose not to. Plant derived foods require far less resources to produce than animal foods. The production and processing of meat requires significant resources of land, water and energy. According to the Australian Conservation Foundation a single serve of meat (150g steak) will require over 200 litres of water to produce and result in 5kg of greenhouse pollution -- that's a significant impact for a small steak. If choosing a vegetarian diet is not an option you can still significantly reduce your environmental impact by reducing the amount of meat you eat. This is one of the reasons why CERES Café offers a limited number of meat options. CERES Café also keeps its environmental footprint low by conserving water and recycling all food and packaging waste.

Nearly half of municipal waste that goes to landfill in Victoria is made up of green waste and food. Decomposition of this organic matter is a major contributor to the generation of the highly damaging greenhouse gas methane, a gas 21 times more potent than CO2 in its impacts on climate change The Café does not offer coffee in disposable cups and any takeaway food is given in compostable paper bags.
