  • I remember as a little guy riding with my grandfather on these. Ac transit had 79' Flyers with the cummins v8. Great rigs but prematurely retired. But by 97' they were almost all gone and totally trashed. The odd part is that no one has any video of one running or driving. The only vid on youtube of a cummins flyer is a quick driveby of one in a tiajuana bus video.

  • AFAIK only Seattle and AC had V908 Cummins in them.

There are less than ten D901s in service here and they may be gone by the end of May. End of the line for Flyer, they're the last ones in service

  • It's a damn shame isn't it? I know I was bashing my head on a wall when the last of our D901As retired. Favourite buses before they retired. Now my favourite buses are our 79xx ISL VIIs.

  • D901s to Orion VIIs? That's quite a step down, literally. Then Orion replaced those with a design that is plain butt - ugh-ly, and next year you get the DD40 (MBE9000, the engine nobody wanted) or nothing, you wind it up at the end of every run.

UPDATE: There are officially only two D901s left, and they're expected to be officially retired next Friday

  • Awesome, thanks tovinman! I really do miss these buses!

  • Eu não sei falar em inglês... Fazer o quê? São ônibus muito bonitos, talvez da década de 70 ou 80 para o padrão dos EUA.

  • There's really nothing left to favourite in Toronto. I have still mass Fishies. But I loved the flyers way better. Im OK when it comes to Fishies. Our ISL VIIs are prolly the best LFs we have. Basically, the only think I see these days are LFs.

  • Stayin' Alive! No Kidding! SAVE THE FLYERS!

  • The Flyer D901 was a great bus. I drove several for the Central Contra Costa Transit Authority (Concord/Walnut Creek, CA) in the late 1980s. They were noisy and smokey, but a dream to drive with 8-cylinder Cummins engines and smooth Alison transmissions. If taken care of, I can see where they would last 25 years.
