Yes, I think you are right. They are an extraordinary mix of origami in metal, rugged, high density wiring, leading edge technology and careful ergonomic design. Added to that they are, inevitably, expensive and glossy. At least they are when they are new. A few years of hard life on the road knocks the gloss off and lets the gremlins in!
