If you're into old hot rods and nostalgia drag racing then you've probably heard of the HAMB (Hokey Ass Message Board) forum, and the HAMBsters that were the result of some collective thinking on there. Based off possibly the very first rail-type drag car (called The Bug) HAMBster are a throw back to the time when you cobbled together a race car in your shed from scrap that was laying around. They're supposed to be cheap, and fun.

If you could look up the term HAMBster in the dictionary you'd probably see something like this flathead powered example. It was built out stuff they found in a scrap bin and it runs pretty good for what it is. No slick tyres, no expensive performance gear, just good old backyard ingenuity and hard work. Don't be hatin' the HAMBster.

  • shouldnt this thing be doing much better than 13.8 seconds cos it is much lighter?

  • @DimsimMaster. Maybe, but you've got to remember that the engine isn't a modern V8. Sure the car is light, but it's got a 4-speed manual gearbox and no slicks. Running as fast as it does makes it one of the quicker cars in it's class.

  • whats that thing have for an engine?

  • @mckibr. Flathead Ford V8, same thing you'll find in most 1932 to 1948 Fords. Also known as a sidevalve v8 because the valves are in the block and not the head.

  • @Imakeplanesboom cool story bro

  • I like how my car is faster than it.

  • @DimsimMaster Yeah, its pretty slow actually. My father runs a normally aspirated flathead roadster that runs in the high 10's , of course he has a 4 1/2 inch stroke , powerglide, slicks, and no extra weight from a radiator and water and useless crap like an alternator , the car in this video could certainly go on a diet its got a bunch of stuff on it that you don't need on a drag racer.

  • was wondering who owns it as we would like to and race them with our HAMBster

  • Great! Love it! nothin' like an angry Flathead. Bring it to Eagle Field. ;-)

  • unmuffled flattie.....mmmmmm :)

  • @DimsimMaster that is pretty fast for this old engine, they had like 70 hp stock

  • Thats sick. How much did this actually cost?

  • you cant beat that awesome sidevavle sound my old cusso has side banger thanks for this video
