This is my first video showing my new Dotcom modular, so be kind!

The basic sound path uses two Q106 oscillators with identical settings, except that one is hard synced and one is soft synced to a pulse wave from a third Q106, with the pulse width being modulated by a fourth Q106 acting as an LFO. The signal is then passed through the STG Sea Devils Filter, and most of the manipulation is an attempt to illustrate different responses from the filter, which is patched with envelopes controlling the cutoff and resonance and FM'ed with a waveform from the third Q106.

The rest of the spaghetti is dedicated to the throw-away chirps that I thought would round things out a bit. The patch was recorded in one take, with no external processing. I hope you enjoy, or in the very least learn what not to do when playing your modular.

  • Still the best demo of the STG Sea devils on youtube!

  • @WaveRiderMusic Thanks for that . . . beaming with pride now. [grin]

  • An interesting video, do you like the Sea Devils filter? I was thinking of getting one.

  • @SyndromFilm Love the Sea Devils filter! It's easily on the short list of my favorites.

  • Awesome! ILove these experiments.I do them when i have time, but what the Hell is a Sea Devil's Filter? Sounds interesting. Is it available in Eurorack format? I will be getting my blue vinyl covered Eurorack cabinet back in February and I am definitely in the market for some odd modules and that sounds like it would fill that void. Have you seen my video where I am pissing around with the Spectralis II yet? We are working it into the live digital laptop system. It's replacing the Raveolution.

  • @kipptumor Just to update you/this, the Sea Devils filter has since been released as a Eurorack module.(Check it out at analoguehaven(dot)com/stgsoundlabs/seadevilsfilter).
