This is a playtrhough with commentary of the game 'Space Ace' for the Philips CD-i. In this run I will stay as Ace as much as possible and will energize into Ace every chance I get (which is once in almost every level).

The scenes will differ a bit if you play as either Dexter or Ace. Dexter's path is a bit easier, with less commands. Ace's path is slightly more intense with more actions and faster timing required to finish the levels. Most of the time Ace's route looks cooler with more action... and more stuff blowing up.

Due to some failure from my part and the time limit YouTube forces onto us I've decided to speed certain redundant scenes up a bit to fit it all into 1 video.

NOTE: for some reason the encoder kept crashing on my initial footage, so I had to convert it and it lost some resolution in th eproces, so we got some big black border around the video now. Sorry about that!

  • Man, this almost gave me a seizure watching it. I've been a fan of Bluth laser games since I was a kid but I never did get anywhere with this one, unlike Dragons Lair.

  • @majikmonkee Funny, I'm pretty much the other way around, the first Dragon's Lair gives me a hard time. It always manages to throw a couple of rooms in a playthrough I'm no good at!

  • Awesome job man.

  • @KCtheOrchestrata Thanks :)

  • I love Don Bluth he's such an amazing animator

  • @CrimsonNineTail Indeed, amazing animation work from him and his studio!

  • all the don bluth games were practically impossible in the arcade unless you pumped in huge coinage, noone I knew had enough money to master it and then memorise a sequence of bizzare directional choices and firing, the game felt terrible in the arcade, looked way ahead of its time but played like a pig, dvd would be a good format to learn it in.

  • I was besotted with all 3 games but this one the most. I think you have to be a little ocd or something to get into them, as it's all just about memorizing your reactions, I mainly played because I loved the animation so much. I was such a gork. I got a lot of attention when I'd swoop into a random arcade, play one of these, win it with 50 cents and then leave--they didn't know it cost (my parents) about a thousand dollars to learn them, ha ha ha. Thanks for posting!

  • @HalfBlindGamer I think having the rooms broken up as they are in Lair helps me prepare, the length of the sequences in Ace is what gives me a tough time. Even the final battle in Dragons Lair is shorter than most Space Ace sequences. :-)

  • @sFT3wINm09

Don Bluth is the best animator

  • Don Bluth is a great animator.

  • Interesting how this route compares with the other one, Seb! Still a pretty weird game all the same. :S

And even more cheat codes present within your commentary! :P

I guess this game might be a bit fun on the first playthrough but there's pretty much no replay value here. :(
