used to be the american car companies released their next year models in mid-september , which was considered prime time car buying time.these trucks DID have the Cummins available in 1988 but not until mid-year 1988,they were actually 19881/2 's another thing they used to do in order to try and capure as many current year sales as possible by using next years options.So,you are all right.There are 88's out there with cummins but they are '88 an 1/2's made after 9/88 Offical release-1989.

Dodge Did Not Cummin till 89 from the factory there was one or two experimental rams with it in there for testing purposes thats it as for pre 89 ram diesels they exsisted but were perkins diesels in the late 70s cummins was factory option in 89 and later ONLY

@cadillacowboy1 just because you see something on youtube doesn't mean its factory, my trucks got a cb in it does that mean 97 dodges came with cbs. dodge did not put cummins in their trucks until the 1989 year model. if you don't believe me look it up

How many car commericials do you see in 2010 advertising 2010 cars? very few they are all advertising 2011 the year after...

I KNOW for a fact, they did not offer the cummins diesel dodge rams in 1988. Even advance auto and every other part store doens't list the cummins diesel as an option for a 1988 D350.....

@cadillacowboy1 You're wrong. I have 4 first gens there was no cummins ram in 1988 model year....just because it was built doesn't make it an 88. IF it was built in 88 then it's an 89 model.
