Jose Canseco did not participate in the HR derby in 1999.

I interviewed Canseco during the Boston Red Sox 7/5-7/8 homestand at Tropicana Field after Canseco was named to the 1999 All Star team. He suffered his back injury after our interview and wasn't able to participate in the game or home run derby.
