"I've Got a Feeling I'm Falling" is a popular song with music by Fats Waller and Harry Link with lyrics by Billy Rose, published in 1929. In addition to be a great jazz pianist, Thomas "Fats" Waller was also a theatre organist starting out professionally at the Lincoln Theatre in Harlem playing a piano console Wurlitzer photoplayer/theatre organ.

The instrument here is a Seeburg Style L keyboardless automatic piano. These saloon instruments were common as dust in the 1920s and have had a fairly good survival rate since then. This particular instrument was built in 1920 and was originally a double-door/leaded glass front piano. A previous owner had the doors changed and a clear beveled glass installed where the leaded glass had been.
Perhaps someday copies will be made to replace what was removed from the front.

This A-roll is supposedly Capitol # 2248.

  • That " L" is great ! You should be proud !

  • It is great fun to have. Played it a couple times this afternoon.

  • A beautiful sound and a marvelous song choice to boot! Much appreciated, as well as the additional commentary you provide. I can only wish I was a collector like you are. So....got any others? ;-)

  • If I ever get it put together, I have a very rare piano console Wurlitzer theatre organ/photoplayer pit organ. It is restored, I am just waiting to install it.

Wurlitzer built over 500 of these machines and today around 10 complete units are known to exist...with three in playable condition right now. If you look at my channel page, you can see a fuzzy postage stamp photo of the unit. It uses regular 88 note rolls rather than Concert PianOrchestra rolls.
