This is the ninth (for now, until the prior entries are released on video) part of my Gamera review series, wherein I review each of the "Gamera" films in order as they're released (or rather, re-released, by Shout! Factory and Mill Creek Entertainment). In this video, I review the third and final Gamera film in the Hesei series, "Gamera: Revenge of Iris" (otherwise known as "Gamera III: Unfinished Struggle" in its native country. Does this final entry in the Hesei series up the ante and raise the bar for monster movies like so many reviews claim or does it flounder and reveal itself to be unworthy of such praise? Watch my review and find out!

  • Awsome review man. It's good to have a favorite movie, but "Gamera Revenge Of Iris" is considered one of the best kaiju films since the original "Godzilla."

  • @darthpetro12 Thanks for the comment. And ya, I was aware of its reputation going in. I do recognize it's a fantastic movie but while I can't quite put my finger on it, I really thought the "Gamera the Brave" was a great love letter and the perfect synthesis of all of the more child-friendly daikaiju movies of yester-year. Also, what can I say? I was a sucker for the mixing of the giant monster movie and (what I like to call) the "troublesome but lovable pet movie". =)

  • @phantomsdaydreams Anyway, both are great movies though and both rank up there as some of my all-time favorites. I mean no disrespect to the hesei trilogy. If we're talking about favorites as a whole (in the genre, I mean) I'm not sure I can decide."Gojira" is rightfully a classic, but at the same time I do have love for so many other great giant monster films. Perhaps I will have to do a top 10 one day...

  • @phantomsdaydreams P.S- I also really loved how they managed to make the rural origins of Iris (a setting that has been done countless times before) both relevant and entertaining. *Sigh* I could say so much more about this movie but alas, I seriously doubt anyone but myself and a few others really wants to hear me ramble on and say what has already been said more eloquently before. =)

  • ADV films DVD are pretty bad ass compared to the crappy Sony editions of like "Godzilla vs. Destroyah". Have u seen the terrible dubbing on those double features? but yeah anyways, haha, gamera 3 is pretty much one of the best monster movies ever made honestly.

  • @MrJoshy77 I love their treatment of the Gamera films (what with all the extra features, they're probablky some of the most jam-packed of any giant monster video release) but their video transfers aren't the best sometimes and I can never forgive them for releasing such a shoddy version of "Destroy All Monsters". English-only, poor video, and no extras! XD Inexcusable for one of the best Godzilla movies. =D Thanks for the comments btw. much appreciated. I'm glad you like the videos.
