whose photograph is that at the back? looks he was being commemorated at this concert. the happy face cutouts are a bit incongruous---i presume this is a delhi concert. i doubt they would have used them in bombay
and the tanpura player too and the tabla and sarangi are sitting opposite where they should be sitting - the photo needs to be flipped. excellent upload - it's been ages since i heard this.
Huh? Ustad Vilayat Husain is the father of Ustad Yunus Husain Khan of the Agra Gharana of India - you can hear Yunus Husain Khan singing accompaniment to his father. Ustad Salamat Ali and Nazakat Ali belong to the Sham Chaurasi gharana from Pakistan.
Khansaheb was indeed the indespensable and undoubted doyen of the Agra Gayaki. His recordings are an outstanding insight into Ragdari and all the finer nuances of the Gayaki through his very pure style. If someone could please upload his Gaud Malhar, Hem Kalyan and Chhayanat? thanks
yunus hussain can be seen in the photo which appears in the latter half of the recording. picture is laterally inverted, though. both tabla and sarangi players look like they are left handed!
A great great maestro. Agra gharana will ever remain grateful this grand master. Tributes:
