Great video. I've just started learning as I have repairs to do on the underside of a cortina. Nice to see what can be done when you know how. Very inspiring.

Hi,
You could use this method on a rocker panel, or you use a slightly different method, called a Slip Joint, which involves adding narrow backing strips sticking out from behind the cut joint to form a step. This gives some added reinforcement to the joint. Also you could mig braze the joint instead of welding. The lower heat input from mig brazing reduces the premature formation of rust inside the panel.

What are your mig settings? Thanks!

I use 0.6mm wire. On my machine the minimum setting is 14.75 volts @ 15 amps. I don't use the stitch/ delay settings, just trigger. I always use some scrap offcuts to set up the voltage and wire speed settings for each job. Obviously the setting would differ for each machine, but start at the lowest setting and check for penetration.
