a lousy idea... trading volume did not cause the crisis. all a transaction tax would do is destroy liquidity. just look what happened in sweden when they implemented one between 1984-91. more reasonable limits on leverage and over-the-counter trading would be far more constructive ideas if you genuinely want to reduce the odds of this stuff happening in the future. this is just misguided pitchfork economic populism.
Great video - a Financial Transaction or Robin Hood Tax is the only way of raising enough revenue to pay for the damage done by the economic crisis.
