ARCA driver Don Marmor's live is saved by the pit road attenuator and Dr. Jerry Punch after an enormous crash during a race at Atlanta Motor Speedway in 1998. The other driver involved is Lee Raymond.
Clip taken from the pre-race show of the 1997 ARCA EasyCare Certified 200 @ Charlotte Motor Speedway, full race uploaded by de31168 --- www.youtube.com/user/de31168

"Marmor`s car piled into a cluster of gravel-filled tires meant to absorb impact, and the top tire came loose and almost went through his windshield."
"``It didn`t do what it was supposed to do,`` says Marmor. ``I got airborne and flipped.`` He spent several months in an Atlanta hospital before transferring to the Marianjoy rehabilitation center in Wheaton."

  • I didn't know that this was a near-fatal crash. I remember using this in a crash comp, and the file description was "Unknown 1988 ARCA crash" .......

  • @bradk12fan

According to an article from The Rock Hill Herald (Nov 19th, 1988) , accessible on Google News Archive, he fractured his hand, both legs & had no pulse. Dr. Jerry Punch assisted emergency crews in stabilizing him and removing him from the wreckage. Oh, and one of the tractor tires almost came through his windshield. Just google his name and you'll find two old newspaper articles.

I always do some googling before I write something into the description, trust me :)

  • @InZaneRacingTV Jerry Punch always is there.

  • @InZaneRacingTV I do trust you. But the file I had, when I used this some of this footage in a crash comp had no info. There was little hint to what track it was. And the footage was decent quality.....
