Charlie Hunter's show's at Yoshi's blew me away. He plays this unique custom 7 string instrument that had me captivated in the front row. After the show he invited me to play it... or at least try to figure it out. At first, the fanned frets looked like they'd be an issue, but they wern't, especially since I knew the bigger task was to figure out the tuning on this instrument. 3 Bass strings; 4 Treble. I think the treble strings are like the middle four of a guitar, but up a step, and including that funny half-step treatment for the highest string. I can't play guitar to save my life! The Bass strings are like the low three on a bass. It was def. fun trying to play this thing! I gave up on figuring it out and just tryed to have fun with it. I had to use 2 hands on the 'board and could still only play a fraction of what Charlie is capable of! Peep some of his vids if you get a chance.
