August 14-16, 2009 - 48 hour film project, San Jose. Vernichter = German for "exterminator". Genre: Foreign Film, Prop: Board Game Piece, Character: Zelda Alexander (an exterminator). Back Story: The Russian army used female snipers during WWII. The story is set in Lithuania, a highly contested German / Russian battleground. Zelda Alexander (Russian Sniper) becomes known to the Germans as "Die Vernichter" (the exterminator) for her impossibly difficult snipes. A well placed German 88 canon is causing major casualties to the Russians, so Die Vernichter is called in to take out the operators, and have her spotter place a charge to blow it up. She takes down the operators, but one does not die immediately, and she is forced to shoot through her spotter (who she's fallen in love with) to kill the final operator before he can fire the 88. Zelda is playing the piano, looking at a picture of her and her love while remembering the war.

We really hope you enjoy the movie as much as we enjoyed making it. Please comment and rate.

Special thanks: Hans Beerbaum, thank you for your generous hospitality and the use of all your artillery, costumes, and props. Thank you to Dan Lewis for arranging funding for our gas, incidentals, ammo, and pyro. Thank you the the AVEEKS for providing us with that final boost of caffeine. Javier and Erin for helping way above and beyond what your task entailed. Julia Heller introducing us to Hans, and many or our cast, and doing our translations for the graphics package. And finally, but CERTAINLY NOT LEAST to our entire cast and crew. Nobody was above doing any job (stars were even running grip in full costume), and nobody was below stepping up either. You all helped make an amazing piece for such a shot period, and we really couldn't have done it without you.

Also... thank you to Tony (badass) for running to 7-11 in full German uniform. That must have been... uncomfortable.

  • What's the name of the piece Julia plays? It's wonderful.

  • It's called "Letter". I originally wrote it with the idea in mind of a woman receiving the news of her lover's death in a letter. However, this seemed like a much better way to go. Thank you for the kudos.

  • Hey guys, great job. Really professionally done, the production design is amazing. Hard to compete with real tanks, haha! Love the music and the flow of imagery. Good luck to your team. Btw, what group were you in? Check out our 48 hr film Raton if you get a chance.

  • Thanks for the kudos. We were in group A.

  • When I saw tanks and 88's on the screen at Camera 12, I put away the speedo I was going to wear in Cannes. Got a vote from me for audience favorite. Great job!

  • Thank you very much, but there were a lot of good movies out there. It was pretty hard to choose which movies to vote for! Thanks for your vote!
