Chuck Cecil of radio's "The Swinging Years" interviews Bing and Patty Andrews of the Andrews Sisters as an introduction to their 1944 million-seller recording of Cole Porter's "Don't Fence Me In". Cole actually wrote the song ten years earlier for a 20th Century Fox film musical called "Adios, Argentina" that was never produced. Although Cole wrote all of the music, the lyrics come from a poem Cole bought for $250 from Bob Fletcher, a highway engineer with the State of Montana. Cole reworked the poem into the song and tried to give Fletcher co-authorship credit but the publishers wouldn't allow it at the time. Fletcher later sued the publishers and won.

Of course Bing and the Andrews sisters would have a larger selling record than Roy Rogers, they were the top singers at that time. They would get more radio air time.

LOL, take note, Cole Porter, who wrote this song, is about as "country and western" as Barack Obama is, but suit yourself.

Was Cole Porter working with Bing? I don't know much about them; is this the same guy who wrote "anything goes"?

The SAME Cole Porter. Cole had been asked to compose a "cowboy song" for a musical and this was the end result...the man could write anything.
