The majesty that was once Toton Depot, It was the end of February 1992 and Class 20s were coming to the end of their reign. Toton was already a shadow of its former self but had not yet been invaded by Class 66.
On this visit we see 20202 20099 inside were 20182 20121 20117 37505 outside again were 20142 20135 20082 56029 passing by we see two class 56 light engine 56059 56081 also on shed were 20132 20090 20210 20214 56125. Class 58 59016 passes by the depot with a coal train heading for Ratcliff power station before the final shot is of 20075 and 20071 departing the yards with empty HAAs bound for Bentink Colliery.

  • Brilliant video, thanks for posting.

  • @wiggydj100 Many thanks Dave

  • Fantastic! Thanks for posting. I remember loads of 20's in the mid 1980's. In pairs on very heavy trains. Always amazed me how strong those little loco's where. Maybe because they are low geared? They certainly worked them hard for thirty years. BR had there monies worth out of them. Loved the way there turbos whistle when driver shut power off. Bags of character, unlike today's loco's. Very unique & unusual feature, there diesel was stored in there frame not in a conventional fuel tank.

  • @Harleybun I didnt know that about the fuel tanks, very interesting. I loved the class 20s I think English Electric built a loco for a purpose and the proof of their success is still around to be witnessed today. The VW Beetle of the railways.

    Thanks for taking a look.

    Eddie

  • Brilliant. Thanks for posting. When I finally got around to going up to Toton, long way from Hampshire, it was all 58s and 56s and the twenties were all parked. Only place you could see 20s was Warrington if you were lucky. I'll send you the vid if I can find it!

  • @balmesh Cheers bud, yep its all different now.
