UNLUCKY 13 or LUCKY 13???: "Mr. Wonderful" peaked at No. 13 and spent a total of 19 weeks on Billboard's Hot Top 100 in 1956...
{Was it bad luck to have stopped at #13 or good luck that it spent 19 weeks on the charts} Plus in 1956 there were two other versions of this song that charted; Peggy Lee took it to No. 14 and Teddi King topped out at No. 18...

I really hate to (honest) burst everybody's bubble (mine was, I almost fainted) when I saw a new bio on Paul titled The Man With The Baby Blues at a local book store. I still can't believe what I read, he had everyone fooled, the public at least. I'm sure the truth was known in most entertainment circles.

There's a reason the writer, who has pulled this kind of hack job on other deceased stars, didn't publish the book when Mr. Newman was still alive to refute the claims. Don't be fooled into believing everything in the book- if Newman had been active in even half the debaucheries the writer claims the star took part in, he never would have had time to make a movie, let alone star in a slew of classics, raise a family, build a huge business, race cars, give to charitable organizations, etc.

@slc2466 i read specific incidents with other stars, much first hand documentation. As far as his busy life is concerned, author himself states he pretty much wound it down by early 60's. I'm not judging him, but there's never any point in denial. Elvis wanted a role Paul was up for and called him and invited him over, to a challenge to see who cld p*** the furthest in the garden. The relationship with George Peppard was interesting, Elizabeth Ashley his wife commented on it.

Still think it's too easy for all these claims to be made AFTER Newman's death. There is definitely a point in questioning the veracity of this book, and it doesn't have to do with denial (for instance, I didn't notice much of any "first hand documentation" you mention when I browsed through the book). Note: Newman certainly did stay busy after the 1960's, with films (five Oscar nominations for him after 1980 alone, including a win), his business, family and racing, among other interests.

At 2:51, Newman is seen in 1959's "The Young Philadelphians."
